AI drafting is optional
AI-assisted drafting and rewriting are off by default and are never required to use VERA. You can always choose the non-AI Basic Template option instead.
Who provides the AI
VERA uses Anthropic / Claude via the Emergent LLM gateway as its AI subprocessor. The VERA app does not contact an AI provider directly.
What data may be sent
When you choose to use AI drafting or rewriting, VERA sends only the minimum selected details needed to generate the draft. This may include:
- Incident title
- Incident date or approximate date
- Incident description you entered
- Selected recipient role
- Draft purpose
- Selected tone
- Any text you choose to include for that drafting task
What is never sent
VERA does not send any of the following to AI:
- Uploaded evidence files
- Audio recordings, videos, and photos
- PDFs
- Payment information
- Passwords
- Demographic or identity self-identification
- Unrelated records
- Growth / Promotion / Pay records
- Employment Outcome Tracker records
- Other users' data
How the data flows
AI requests are routed through VERA's backend — the app never talks to the AI provider directly:
VERA app → VERA backend → Anthropic/Claude via Emergent LLM gateway → VERA backend → VERA app
Consent is required
Before AI-assisted drafting or rewriting runs, you must review and accept the in-app AI Disclosure & Consent screen. Without current AI consent, VERA blocks AI drafting and rewriting, and no drafting data is sent to Anthropic / Emergent.
You can decline or revoke AI
You may decline AI and use the non-AI Basic Template option instead. You may also revoke AI consent at any time. Once revoked, AI drafting is blocked until you grant consent again.
Prompt retention
VERA does not retain the raw AI prompt. VERA keeps only drafts that you choose to save.
